Baltimore hospitals announce information-sharing agreement | 01.29.2007 | 07:07:49 | Views: 5386 | ID: January 29 '07: Baltimore-area hospitals have entered into an information-sharing agreement that would help hospital officials and medical responders, "share information about resources and staffing" to mitigate the impact of a large disaster, Baltimore's City Health Department Commissioner Dr. Joshua Sharfstein said, the Examiner reported. The information-sharing agreement between the hospitals was signed back in April 2006, the paper reported. However, the announcement of the mutual aid system was not announced until this month. According to a press release from Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon, the agreement includes a Memorandum of Understanding "that permits the sharing of staff and supplies among city hospitals." In the press release, Mayor Dixon said, "Just as our first responders talk to each other through interoperable communications equipment, this step means that our hospitals can collaborate efficiently in the midst of a serious event." 11 hospitals in the city and surrounding area have agreed to share resources. Among the other details in the agreement: "It addresses expenses, credentialing, and supervision of physicians. The agreement also spells out liability, insurance, and confidentiality issues."
