Kansas to train Incident Management Teams | 01.30.2007 | 07:17:02 | Views: 4989 | ID: January 30 '07: Kansan officials have announced plans to train new Incident Management Teams to help provide assistance to regional first responders who could be quickly overwhelmed during a large emergency or disaster. According to a local CBS affiliate, channel 13, the teams would have 20 members who would be trained in several skills and one team would be deployed to six of the seven Homeland Security regions in the state. Greater detail of the training and deployment of the teams as well as their relationship with existing responders and emergency management directorates was published in an open invitation for training located on the state's Ready.gov site. The IMT's would be "developed so that they would be able to be fully self-sustained, not drawing any resources from the requesting jurisdiction," the site read. Each IMT trainee would be required to serve for two years, and would be primarily working to help secure and respond to an area for the first 72 hours after an event until state and regional resources could come in. Further more, the IMT's would be trained in "multi-discipline, all-hazards response" and would be able to "assist their staff with command, control and incident management functions. The IMT's will be trained to fill these roles in both tactical field operations and in an Emergency Operations Center," the release read.
