Broadband national interoperable network proposed | 02.02.2007 | 16:37:40 | Views: 5097 | ID: February 2 '07: To link first responders through a seamless interoperable communications network, Arizona Senator John McCain (R) has proposed a broadband network, a press release announced. The new national network would link responders and allow data sharing over the 700 MHz spectrum which would allow for real-time data transmission. McCain said in the press release that the new network would establish "equipment standards, [create a drive for] funding the purchase of emergency and interoperable communications equipment, and belatedly [make] additional radio spectrum available." Currently, several states such as Oregon and New York are in the process of building such networks. Additionally, Dallas has the first interoperable network for a city linking the responder communities of Fort Worth and Dallas. McCain's proposal hints to a growing body of responders communities who have endorsed the allocation of a 30MHz from the 700 MHz spectrum for an interoperable network. Those organizations include the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Fire Chiefs, Major Cities Chiefs Association, Major Counties Sheriffs Association, National Sheriffs Association, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials-International, the Western Fire Chiefs Association and many more, the press release said.
