Ohio communities plan for state-wide tornado disaster response | 03.28.2007 | 04:09:37 | Views: 6707 | ID: March 28 '07: During Severe Weather Awareness Week, Ohio officials announced they have encouraged residents to participate in a statewide tornado emergency response drill, the Salem News reported. According to a press release from the state, with the onset of tornado season, every resident should prepare themselves and families for the threat of the powerful storms. In the press release, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland said, "As Ohio prepares for the arrival of spring and summer, the times when we are at the greatest risk for severe weather, including tornadoes, I urge every Ohioan to organize your emergency plans and conduct safety and evacuation drills. I want everyone prepared." To help spread information, informational pamphlets will be available to communities to help them learn how to prepare emergency kits, contingency plans and how to stock up on essential supplies for the first 72 hours after an event. During the statewide drill, "residents are encouraged to review tornado safety rules and be prepared to move to a place of safety if threatening weather approaches."
