New California community emergency preparedness site launched | 04.04.2007 | 07:12:44 | Views: 5522 | ID: April 4 '07: The state of California has announced a new community preparedness website which will provide valuable emergency preparedness and disaster response information in more than 12 languages, a local CBS affiliate in San Francisco reported. According to the state's new Director of Public Health, Dr. Mark Horton, the website will give "Californians the information they need to get ready before the next earthquake, fire, flood or other emergency..." Information on the site has been provided for families, businesses, schools and health providers, the CBS affiliate reported. "Families can get advice on how to talk to their children about disasters and learn planning tips for what to do for pets or livestock during the disaster. Business owners can learn how to contact their employees during an emergency an how to help them cope with stress after an emergency occurs," the afiliate continued. The website was launched during Public Health Week in the state. The Department of Public Health is a new addition to the state's government and will be created on July 1, 2007.
