New Lessons Learned website for special needs populations hosted by DHS | 06.13.2007 | 07:17:23 | Views: 5567 | ID: June 13 '07: The Department of Homeland Security has announced a new section for their Lessons Learned Information-Sharing website for special needs populations. The new section will host information about response and recovery operations for disabled and impaired populations. The section also represents a growing focus on those who depend upon the community to respond and prepare for disasters. The LLIS was created to help "emergency response providers and homeland security officials ... prevent, prepare for and respond to acts of terrorism and other incidents." The new disabled populations section will be incorporated into the larger peer reviewed site which acts as a "clearinghouse" for "After Action Reports." Registrants will be able to obtain special needs-specific information and reports based on response operations around the country, compiled from federal, state and local governments. New reports and content is posted on the front page with public access showing only a summarization while members can obtain the full content once inside the site. On its fact sheet, the LLIS site said its resources also included an online library of "homeland security-related documents ... An online community of experienced professionals from all disciplines sharing lessons learned and best practices ... [And] a system accessible only to validated members of the emergency response and homeland security communities." The site is a partnership between DHS and the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism with the support of the consulting firm DeticaDFI and the Henry L. Stimson Center.
